Nanliao is rich in culture, from the 1800s to the present, from a trade center to a place of play for people. Without the existence of Nanliao, the development of Hsinchu would not have been so rapid.

The Huang brothers, who have lived in Nanliao for generations, jointly funded the construction of the "Yongsheng Ice Factory" (originally named "Sanlong Ice Factory") to make large ice blocks for fishermen to preserve their catches. At its peak, the cold storage always had one or two hundred large ice blocks ready for use by the fishing boats of Nanliao Fishing Harbor.

The photo was taken by Guo Jinlin in November 2019, showing the Cisheng Temple located in Nanliao. Cisheng Temple was built by the residents in 1966 and completed in 1969. It guards the sea border of Nanliao, with one Mazu statue sitting high on a chair at the back of the temple, known as the Guardian Mazu of Cisheng Temple, and another with a peaceful face sitting on a lower palanquin, known as the Palanquin Mazu.

The Xie family's shipyard has been passed down to the fifth generation. The founder, Mr. Xie Wanzi, went to Keelung to learn shipbuilding from the Japanese and established the "Wanli Shipyard" in 1953, using high-quality yellow cypress and red cypress to make wooden boats for the villagers.
